7 Ways to Protect Your Mental Health & Trust God in Uncertain Times

During times of uncertainty, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed—especially when job security is at risk. Across the country, many women, including government workers, are facing job losses and financial stress. If you’re feeling the weight of it all, know this: God is still in control.

The Bible reminds us that our security isn’t in jobs, finances, or circumstances—it’s in Christ. He promises to be our provider, our peace, and our refuge in every season of life. As you navigate this time, here are seven ways to guard your mind, trust in God’s plan, and find strength in His Word.

1. Acknowledge Your Emotions—Then Surrender Them to God

It’s okay to feel fear, frustration, or sadness—but don’t let them consume you. Instead, bring those feelings to God in prayer. He cares deeply about your burdens:

📖 “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

Instead of trying to carry everything alone, surrender your worries to God and trust that He will guide you through.

2. Lean on Your Support System & Fellowship in Faith

God created us for community, and now more than ever, we need our sisters in Christ. Lean on those who can pray with you, encourage you, and remind you of God's promises.

📖 “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:11

If you don’t have a strong Christian community, consider joining a women’s Bible study, attending church events, or simply reaching out to a friend for prayer.

3. Establish a God-Centered Routine

When life feels unstable, a daily routine centered around God’s Word can bring peace. Start your day in prayer, spend time in scripture, and allow His truth to anchor your heart.

📖 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” — Matthew 6:33

By making time for God first, you’ll find clarity and peace even in chaos.

4. Take Care of Your Body—Your Temple

Your body is a gift from God, and taking care of it is an act of worship. Even in stressful times, be mindful of your health:

✔️ Exercise—Even a short walk can clear your mind and lift your spirit.

✔️  Rest well—Trust that God is working while you sleep. “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” — Psalm 4:8 Aspire to get 7 or as many hours of restorative sleep as possible.

✔️  Eat well—Nourish your body with good food as an act of self-care. Incorporate fresh fruits & vegetables wherever possible.

✔️  Look well—When you look well you feel well. Take a makeup class to improve your makeup skills to meet others and to refresh your look!

✔️  Lipstick— Nourish your lips and choose new and uplifting lip colors that make you feel energized and encouraged.

✔️   Shop our favorite Black Woman Owned makeup line where each lip color is named after women who changed history. For example, the lip look worn in the photo above is from the Crimson Lip Set available here: https://www.glamupp.com/products/the-delta-sigma-theta-crimson-lip-set

5. Guard Your Heart & Mind From Negativity

In difficult times, the enemy will try to fill your mind with fear and doubt. Be intentional about what you consume—limit news intake, step away from social media when needed, and fill your mind with God’s truth.

📖 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:6-7

Replace anxiety with prayer, and let God’s peace protect your heart.

6. Trust That God Has a Plan—Even When You Can’t See It

Losing a job or facing financial struggles may feel overwhelming, but this is not the end of your story. God promises that He has a plan for your future—one filled with hope and purpose.

📖 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11

Use this time to seek new opportunities, develop new skills, and grow in faith as you trust God’s direction.

7. Rest in God’s Promises & Find Joy in Small Blessings

Even in trials, there are blessings to be found. Take time to appreciate the small moments—prayer time, laughter with loved ones, or the beauty of nature. Find joy in knowing that God’s love for you is unshakable.

📖 “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” — Psalm 23:1

📖 “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” — Philippians 4:4

Indulge in self-care, not as a luxury, but as a reminder that you are God’s beloved daughter. Whether it’s putting on your favorite lip gloss, reading an inspiring book, or taking a moment to breathe—these small acts can be ways to worship and reflect on His goodness.

Final Thoughts: You Are Covered by God’s Grace

No matter what happens next, remember: You are not alone, you are not forgotten, and you are deeply loved. God is your provider, your strength, and your peace.

Hold onto His promises, trust in His plan, and know that He is working all things together for your good.

📖 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” — Romans 8:28
